No, we encourage people from diverse backgrounds to apply. The field of simulation draws people from areas such as art, theater, engineering, education, medicine and more. What matters most is genuine interest in the program's core areas: leadership, education, research and simulation.

Our course content is designed for busy professionals and is pre-recorded and deployed asynchronously. Attendance is encouraged, but not mandatory, for our live weekly office hours. Students who can't attend live office hours due to scheduling or time zone constraints can arrange individual check-ins at another convenient time with their course directors.

Yes, the program is specifically designed for working professionals. It's part-time (18 months, including the summer quarter, 44 credits) and asynchronous. Current students maintain a range of busy full-time careers.

Yes! International students’ in-person practicum can be completed at a simulation center in their home country. More information is available on the Simulation Center Practicum page. If you are unsure if your simulation center qualifies, please email simmasters@uw.edu.

Yes! Students in the United States are welcome to complete their in-person practicum at WISH. Students are responsible for any housing or accommodation costs during the practicum. If interested, please contact simmasters@uw.edu for a completed host site agreement. Currently, we are unable to provide or arrange VISAs and accommodations for international students who are interested in completing their practicum at WISH.

Course fees are charged per credit at $968 per credit for both resident and nonresident students. The 18-month program is an estimated total of $42,592 for the 2026–2027 year for 44 total credits (fees subject to change). This doesn't include quarterly registration, technology, and U-PASS fees, or textbooks. For full details, see the Costs & Aid page.

No, the UW does not currently offer any discounts or scholarships. See the Costs & Aid page for general financial aid resources. Please note that as a fee-based program, students are not eligible for standard UW tuition exemptions or university grants.

The Master of Science in Healthcare Simulation Education program prepares graduates to serve as educational, clinical or research leaders in healthcare simulation. This innovative field combines engineering, technology, medical science, art, theater, psychology and human factors. Clinical roles can include clinical educator, residency program director, simulation program medical or clinical director, and patient safety quality lead. Non-clinical roles can include healthcare simulationist, simulation specialist, instructional designer, educational program director and healthcare simulation development engineer, among others. As simulation becomes ubiquitous across healthcare education, there's faster-than-average demand for skilled simulation leaders and educators across the market.
